Bio for pianist/composer Marilynn Seits

Marilynn Seits began playing the piano by ear at the age of two and started taking formal lessons when she was seven. She graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Music Education (piano major) and played 1st chair piano in the award winning University of Illinois Jazz Band under the direction of John Garvey. After college she moved to New York City where she took graduate school courses in music at New York University and The New School. She studied piano and composition with jazz legends Sir Roland Hanna and Jimmy Guiffre and also studied composition and electronic music with composers Steve Reich and Philip Glass.

In 1990, while living in West Palm Beach, Florida, Marilynn built a 48 track recording studio to record her music and that of her two musician sons, guitarist Andy McAusland and bassist Sean McAusland. Together they have written and published over one hundred songs and released five jazz CDs on the CMR Jazz Records label. Marilynn has also composed and recorded the music for nine CDs of New Age music for massage, yoga and relaxation. Her CDs are played on many radio stations including XM, Sirius and Rhapsody, on the relaxing music channels of several airlines and are sold in most internet and regular CD stores.

Marilynn has been performing at the piano since she was in grade school and has played in numerous jazz trios, quartets and big bands both in South Florida and the New York metro area. She has been teaching piano, giving jazz workshops and teaching music in schools for many years and works with both adults and children. She is a registered Music Together teacher, is a member of both ECMMA (Early Childhood Music & Movement Assoc) and Local 802 AFM, New York City.
