Georgia Katsiroumpa was born in Tripolis, Greece (1976)and her music studies started by playing the piano. She also studied theory of music (Degrees in Harmony and Counterpoint) and musicology (Bachelor in Music Studies-University of Athens/2000). She took her Piano Diploma in 1998 with 1st Prize of Performance (Attiko Conservatoire-Greece)and she studied at a postgraduate level with the pianist D. Toufexis. Her interest in choral singing drove her to begin classical singing lessons in 1999. She studied with Dion Arivas, Kostas Iliopoulos and Kostas Paskalis and she took her Singing Diploma in 2004 (National Conservatoire of Greece). She has also studied with Ghena Dimitrova, Rudolf Knoll, Ryland Davis, Helga Wagner, Aris Christofellis and Rosa Poulimenou in singing master-classes and with Dimitris Toufexis in piano master-classes.
She has worked as a piano accompanist, piano and choral singing teacher and solo singer in many professional and amateur music groups, in Greece and UK. Her distinctions include the 1st prize in classical singing in the Pan-Hellenic competition of ‘’Young’s Choir and Orchestra’’ (Athens, 2006) and the 1st prize in the Peripheral music competition for students (Greek Ministry of Education-Kalamata,2004) for the direction of the choir of the Music School of Sparta.
She is currently a piano teacher at the Music School of Piraeus after her appointment from the ‘’Supreme Council of Personnel Selection’’ (Greek Ministry of Education-2002 competition) and she just finished her Master in Music (Performance)in Leeds University. She is now persuing a PhD research degree (Performance).
Piano accompaniment has been one of her main activities since 1996. During the last 5 years she has been working mostly with singers and choirs. |
