Having graduated from Huddersfield University with BMus (Hons), Stephen went on to study at the Royal Northern College of Music with John Wilson and Ka Kit Tam. At the completion of his studies he was awarded the Post-Graduate Diploma in Performance and the Clifton Helliwell Memorial Prize for Piano. The following Year was spent gaining experience at Wells Cathedral School, playing for instrumentalists and singers. During this time Stephen performed on regional TV, and was also heard in a broadcast of the Audi Junior Musician of the Year competition.
Stephen went on to complete a PGCE in Secondary Music and currently combines teaching Music at Ratcliffe College in Leicester with a busy freelance career as a piano teacher, pianist and accompanist throughout the Midlands. He was a finalist in the Birmingham Accompanist of the Year competition, and performs with singers and instrumentalists throughout the region. Recent performances have included solo/duo recitals at the Phoenix Theatre Leicester, and the Ashbourne festival.
Stephen works as a repetiteur for music theatre companies. Recent credits have included productions of ‘Crazy For You’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’. He has also worked as an accompanist for several Summer Music Schools, and is currently a staff pianist for Ardingly International Music School for Singers, where he works with many outstanding young singers.
Stephen also has a keen interest in jazz and has had the opportunity to work with jazz trios and bands in a wide range of standard and contemporary repertoire. He recently formed his own jazz group which perform at private functions and parties. |
