Christopher Lovegrove

Christopher Lovegrove

Crickhowell, Powys
United Kingdom NP8

Additional Info:

Based in South Powys, bordering Monmouthshire and Herefordshire, Christopher Lovegrove accompanies instrumentalists and singers at all levels, from beginner to diploma, for concerts and recitals, competitions and exams.

Christopher gained his LRAM piano teaching diploma before graduating from the University of Southampton, where he studied piano under Ian Brown. Following a postgraduate teaching certificate from Bath Spa University he was appointed Head of Music in a Bristol secondary school. After later moving to West Wales he taught music in a number of schools in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire before retiring from state education.

He is in demand as an accompanist for recitals and festivals: he regularly played for the Young Musicians platform at the Fishguard International Music Festival and supported competition winners at the St David’s Cathedral Festival (2006 and 2014) and the Tenby Arts Festival (2012 and 2014). He was an official accompanist for the Young Musician of Dyfed competition, a role he now fills for the Abergavenny eisteddfodau.

In addition to having accompanied for competitions such as the Young Musician of Wales, the Royal Over-Seas League Music Competition and in finals at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, the National Eisteddfod and Urdd Eisteddfod, he was also an accompanist for the Dyfed Choir and now accompanies for Crickhowell Choral Society. Whenever an orchestral pianist is required he plays for Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra.

He was also a frequent adjudicator for the Pembrokeshire Schools Music Festivals, Urdd eisteddfodau preliminaries, and Rotary Club Young Musician competitions in West Wales, as well as judging for school eisteddfodau and the 2017 Abergavenny Eisteddfod.
