Andrew Schneider is currently a student of music composition at Rice University (Class of 2013) in Houston, Texas. He has lived in the Houston area all his life. His 5-voice madrigal "On May Morning" won 2nd prize in its division in the 2008 TMTA Young Composers Competition. He has also been a finalist in the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composers Competition.
During high school, at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory, he was regularly accompanied the choir during musical theatre rehearsals in productions such as Les Miserables, and occasionally during regular choral rehearsals.
Being a composition major at Rice, he has been in an ideal position to specialize in the performance of all types of keyboard music, especially when the keyboard majors are tied up elsewhere. He has been in demand at Rice University to play keyboard parts in several works by his fellow composition students, including an opera and a violin concerto. In addition, he has been asked to realize basso continuo accompaniments from figures on instrumental and vocal recitals of his fellow Rice students.
While Jazz is listed as one of my qualifications, this is only to say that I have played Jazz before. I am not extremely experienced in this field, but I am capable of reading off a lead sheet and of improvising accompaniments, and am eager for more experience in this field.
While Organ is listed as an instrument, I only play it at a very basic level. |
