Christopher Atkinson grew up in Lincolnshire, UK, and began piano and clarinet lessons at a young age. He studied with Raymond Banning from 2005 to 2010 and with Mikhail Kazakevich from 2010 to present.
He is an experienced exam, recital and recording studio accompanist. His repertoire features works from the standard literature of voice, violin, viola, cello and clarinet.
Since his time in London Christopher has been proactive as a chamber musician, working closely with the singer Bettina Jonic, is a founding member of The Trafalgar Trio and is the new Music Director of Puzzle Piece Opera. In competition he was placed runner up in the John Ireland Competition in 2010, was highly commended for his performance in The 2011 John Longmire Piano Competition and was also a finalist, with cellist Matthew Strover, in The Leonard Smith and Felicity Young Duo Competition in 2011. He began accompanying dance classes at The Place, London, in March 2012.
Christopher has performed solo recitals in London, St. Albans, Bedford, Grantham, Lincoln, Sheffield, Chesterfield and Nottingham with a concerto performance scheduled with the Havering Concert Orchestra in March 2012, playing Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.2. Future solo and duo recital engagements include London, Lincoln, Lichfield and Spain.
While still at Sixth form he was made an Associateship of Trinity College London (ATCL) on clarinet and in 2008 performed Mozart'’s Clarinet Concerto at various venues in Lincolnshire and on tour of North-Eastern Spain and Andorra with Lincolnshire Youth County Music Service. Whilst being leader of the Lincolnshire Youth Wind Orchestra from 2006 to 2008, he also has experience as a clarinettist and saxophonist in musical pit orchestras and big band. |
