Asher Severini

   Professional Membership Status
Asher Severini began his formal music training at the age of 8. Although originally passionate about composition, he became enthralled with the genius of composers such as J.S. Bach, Chopin, as well as Elliott Carter, Samuel Barber and other 20th Century icons. He studied piano and theory at New England Conservatory as an undergraduate studying with Wha Kyung Byun, Russell Sherman, and Gabriel Chodos and Deborah Stein. During Steve Reich's residency at NEC in 2007, Asher participated in a performance of Reich's Six Pianos at Jordan Hall. The following year he participated in NEC's Carter Centennial Celebration performing Elliott Carter's Piano Sonata on a program with the Chiara String Quartet. At NEC’s Jordan Hall in 2009, Asher performed Katie Agoc's, Division of Heaven and Earth, a solo contemporary work as part of the third annual Arthur Bergur Memorial Concert. He has been called a performer of "relentless intensity.” In 2013 Asher began his Masters in Piano Pedagogy and Performance at Westminster Choir College studying with Ingrid Clarfield. Asher was a Graduate Assistant Accompanist and during his time at Westminster. During this 2 year period he was the winner of the Princeton Festival Piano Competition, Open Class Category and played in masterclasses taught by Steven Spooner, Joseph Kalichstein, and Marina Lomazov, Daniella Mineva, and Natalya Antonova. During recent summers Asher has attended music festivals in Europe and in the US such as MusicFest Perugia and the Atlantic Music Festival where he has actively performed in a collaborative role music ranging from solo instrumental sonatas to larger chamber ensembles such as piano quintets.



Asher’s main piano teachers have been James Goldsworthy, Maria Clodes Jaguaribe, Gabriel Chodos, Wha Kyung Byun, and Russell Sherman, Ingrid Clarfield and Robert Koenig. Asher currently is pursuing his DMA in both solo and collaborative piano as a student of Robert Koenig at UCSB and is the recipient of the Regents Fellowship Award.
