American born pianist Angela Novy began her career as an accompanist in New York City. She worked as a staff pianist at New York University, New York Theatre Ballet, and Virtuoso Suzuki Academy, where she also worked as an educator. As a supporter of new music, she performed as a cabaret pianist. for numerous musical theatre composers throughout the city, performing in venues such as Don't Tell Mama and The Laurie Beechman Theatre.
Angela moved to London in 2018 to study as an accompanist at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she also worked as an accompanist for Drama and Vocal lessons. Highlights of her studies included performing at St. James Piccadilly and for the 50th Anniversary Gala for the Colyer-Fergusson Charitable Trust, which met in the events' space under the Globe Theatre. She centered her studies on researching the effects of politics on music, which culminated in two recitals on the Weimar Republic Cabaret Scene and the music and poetry of World War I. She also focused on French and English Art Song and Opera. She has continued performing with colleagues from Guildhall in lunchtime recitals in London and the Greater London area.
A supporter of new compositions, Angela joined the music collective Current Views. The group worked remotely during the 2021 lockdown and produced and recorded the album Hindsight is 2020. This album was described as, ‘...frustration, exhaustion, and unity being put forth in a unique, enjoyable, artistic, and STYLIC way,’ by blogger Tom Phillips. The track Clapped was chosen for NMC's National Lockdown Survey, and was included on a compilation album. She has since worked with singer Gaja Cetnar on her debut album The New Script. As part of Gaja's band, she has played at numerous venues across London including The Half Moon Putney, The Cavendish Arms and Katzpace.
She has been working as an accompanist and educator at Bishop's Stortford College since September 2021. She accompanies three school choirs and one after school community choir, accompanies and prepares ABRSM exams, and accompanies student recitals both in school and in the community through our springtime Lunchtime Recital performances. She also accompanies three major choir concerts each year and plays Keyboard 2 in a musical every other year. She teaches two beginner Violin group classes, runs GCSE clinics, teaches ABRSM and Trinity written theory (through Grade 8) and aural skills, and teaches piano lessons.
She has recently moved to Ipswich with her husband and is looking forward to meeting and working with other musicians in the area.
