Emily Wanru Gao is a collaborative pianist and piano educator based in Northern Virginia. She is currently pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance at George Mason University. She earned her Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and her Bachelor of Music from the Inner Mongolia University of Arts.
Emily has extensive experience collaborating with instrumentalists and vocalists in lessons, studio classes, chamber music rehearsals, recitals, jury examinations, competitions, and auditions. She has partnered with musicians across a broad range of string, woodwind, and brass instruments. She enjoys the collaborative process of bringing musical ideas to life through thoughtful rehearsal and artistic communication.
Known for her reliability, adaptability, and attentive musicianship, Emily prepares repertoire efficiently and works closely with performers to support both technical and musical goals. She believes that successful collaboration is built on trust, flexibility, and active listening, and strives to create performances that reflect a genuine musical partnership.
Alongside her collaborative work, Emily maintains an active private piano studio, teaching students of all ages and levels in both the United States and China.
