Paul is a pianist pursuing the Guildhall Artist Master’s in Piano Accompaniment (PACC) at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Under the guidance of the renowned professors Bretton Brown and Carole Presland, he is refining his artistry in collaborative piano, working with both vocalists and instrumentalists across a wide and diverse repertoire. This program allows him to immerse himself fully in the intricate world of accompaniment and chamber music, honing his skills at the highest level.
Over the past year, Paul has performed at some of the UK’s most iconic venues, including Wigmore Hall and Milton Court. Highlights include the Fauré Song Masterclass with Malcolm Martineau at Wigmore Hall (November 2024), Songs at Six: Expressionist Song of the Second Viennese School at Milton Court (November 2024), and an intensive summer at the Franz Schubert Institut in Austria, where he studied German Lied with internationally acclaimed artists such as Roger Vignoles, Julius Drake, Helmut Deutsch, Robert Holl, Wolfram Rieger, Michael Schade, and Elly Ameling. He was also honoured to be a finalist for the Jubilee Accompaniment Prize (February 2025).
Paul is also delving into historical performance practice, specializing in harpsichord and basso continuo as part of his studies at Guildhall with Professor James Johnstone. He also attended the Harpsichord program with scholarship at Domaine Forget in the Summer 2025 studying continuo with Mélisande McNabney.
Drawing on his background in AI, data science, analytics, and technology, Paul is passionate about exploring how innovation can shape the future of classical music. He is particularly interested in how technology can open new frontiers in performance and audience engagement, merging the traditions of classical piano with contemporary ideas and digital tools. At Guildhall, Paul has collaborated with several contemporary composers on original projects, an experience that has deepened his commitment to exploring fresh ways of creating and presenting music.
Paul’s musical journey began in Canada, where he trained as a child with renowned pianist and choral conductor Philippe Ostiguy. During his formative years, he spent 12 years singing with Les Petits Chanteurs de Laval, an internationally touring choir, performing across the globe in China, France, the UK, and Canada. This experience not only developed his musicianship but also instilled in him a passion for collaboration and live performance.
As a young musician, Paul achieved several prestigious prizes. These successes marked the beginning of a long journey of artistic discovery, which now culminates in his work at Guildhall. For several years, Paul also studied at Morley College in London, working under innovative pianist Kate Ryder, who opened the doors to experimental and contemporary music. This training immersed him in the works of avant-garde composers like George Crumb and John Cage, cultivating a deep interest in the intersection between classical and modern repertoire.
As a versatile chamber musician, Paul has performed works ranging from Rachmaninoff’s Cello Sonata to Fauré’s Piano Quartet and has participated in renowned festivals such as Alpenkammermusik in Austria and the PLAYWIP Chamber Music Workshop in the Czech Republic. His vocal repertoire is equally expansive, encompassing works like Schumann’s Frauenliebe und Leben and Poulenc’s Fiançailles pour rire, showcasing his collaborative skills as an accompanist.
