My name is Angela Gricar and I have played piano for 25+ years. I am a classically trained musician and received 10 years of weekly private lessons growing up. I enjoy playing in a cocktail lounge setting where I can showcase my sight-reading skills and take song requests. Because of this, I have a variety of set-lists and am open to exploring most any genre: pop, classic rock, power ballads, country, new wave, musical theatre, r&b/soul, contemporary piano solos, etc.
A bit about myself: I started playing piano for my church choir when I was in 6th grade. At that same time, I was also the rehearsal pianist / accompanist for school productions such as Carousel and The Music Man. Growing up I was in several music electives & extra curricular activities: jazz band, orchestra, wind ensemble, marching band, drum line, etc. It was around this time that I also started playing piano for events like weddings & funerals.
I have experience accompanying school choirs as well as church choirs (Catholic, Lutheran, Episcopal, Methodist, etc). I have worked at several churches across the greater Los Angeles County. Currently I work for Faith United Methodist Church where I play for their ensemble and two choirs, including all rehearsals and services. Next year, I will also begin a new position as the accompanist for the South Coast Chorale, located in Long Beach. I look forward to playing for all the auditions, sectionals, concerts, and community events alike.
I am interested in performing for concert halls & music venues. I would also like to join accompanist pools for university music departments, as well as accompany musical theatre auditions / rehearsals. I enjoy the hustle and bustle of accompaniment life.
I fully understand not having a higher education degree in music can be seen as a deterrent to some employers. Therefore I am prepping / practicing to apply & audition for collaborative piano graduate programs at USC, UCLA, Northridge, Long Beach, etc.
