Hi! My name is Evelyn Handrisanto, and I’m a pianist based in Singapore. While I started my journey in music as a soloist, over the years I’ve found great joy and meaning in the world of collaborative piano, working closely with vocalists, instrumentalists, and choirs.
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to perform in many inspiring spaces across Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea, Poland, and the UK. Some of the highlights that have stayed with me include recitals at the Lee Foundation Theatre (NAFA), Yale-NUS College, Erasmus Huis (Jakarta), Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, and the Royal College of Music in London. Each stage brought its own kind of energy, and I cherish the moments of connection music has allowed me to create across different cultures and communities.
Currently, I serve as the resident pianist for the Singapore Symphony Youth Choir, under the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO), working closely with choirmaster Mrs. Wong Lai Foon. I’ve also had the opportunity to work at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music as a piano accompanist, supporting students in lessons, recitals, and jury performances. Since 2023, I have had the great privilege of working under Maestro Hans Graf for an SSO concert project, a meaningful and enriching experience for me both professionally and personally. I’ve also been honoured with the Best Accompanist Prize at the Music Essentials Concerto Competition, which affirmed for me the importance of this often behind-the-scenes but deeply collaborative work.
My musical journey began in Indonesia, where I started piano at a young age. Later, I moved to Singapore to study at NAFA, supported by the NAFA ASEAN Grant, NAFA Scholarship, and the Singapore Ministry of Education Tuition Grant. I completed my Diploma in Music Performance with Distinction, and with the help of the Leong Yoon Pin Scholarship, I pursued my Bachelor of Music (Hons) at the Royal College of Music (UK), graduating with First Class Honours under the guidance of Mrs. Rena Phua.
Along the way, I’ve been grateful to receive several awards: Grand Winner of the UPH Chopin Piano Competition in Jakarta, Gold Prize and Most Promising Artist Award at the ASEAN International Chopin Piano Competition in Malaysia, Second Prize at the International Chopin Piano Competition in Singapore, and First Prize at the Lucien Wang Piano Competition, among others. I also received Best Sonata Prize and First Prize in the Artist Category at the Nanyang International Music Competition.
To grow artistically, I’ve sought out opportunities to learn from wonderful mentors. I’ve participated in masterclasses with pianists such as Gordon Fergus-Thompson, Dina Parakhina, Vanessa Latarche, Jerzy Sterczyński, Boris Kraljevic, and Noriko Ogawa. Their insights and encouragement have deeply shaped the way I approach both solo and collaborative work.
Music critic, Dr. Chang Tou Liang have described my playing as honest and lyrical — “limpid fingers and a singing line,” as noted in The Straits Times, and “clean and unmannered,” according to Pianomania.
Outside of performing, I’ve been teaching since 2010 at my home studio. I love seeing students grow into their sound and confidence, and I’ve had the joy of seeing some of them win awards and gain entry into music programs in Singapore and the UK.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little better. Whether you’re a fellow musician, student, or music lover, I’m always looking forward to meaningful collaborations and conversations through music.
Warmly,
Evelyn Handrisanto
