Romanian pianist Florian Mitrea is the winner the Lagny-sur-Marne 2014 and Vienna-Panmusica 2010 International Piano Competitions. He also won the Beethoven 2010 and the Sheepdrove 2011 Intercollegiate Competitions in the United Kingdom. Early prizes and distinctions include First Prize in the Romanian Music Olympics, Ada Ulubeanu Piano Competition and the Third Prize in the Jeunesses Musicales International Competition.

He performed recitals and concertos in venues such as Palais Lobkowitz-Eroica Saal (Vienna), King’s Place, St. Martin-in-the Fields, St. James’ Piccadilly, Steinway Hall, Draper’s Hall, Colston Hall (Bristol), Corn Exchange (Newbury), Bath Abbey, Romanian Athenaeum (Bucharest, Romania), Ruinekerk (Bergen, The Netherlands) and the 3000-seater Seoul Arts Centre (South Korea). In 2013 he was accepted on The International Holland Music Sessions in Boris Berman’s studio. Florian performed in masterclasses given by Leif Ove Adsnes, Stephen Hough, Stephen Kovacevich, John Lill, Pascal Devoyon, Joanna MacGregor, Angela Brownridge, Michael Roll, Boris Petrushansky and Imogen Cooper. In the summer of 2014, he held a fellowship at the Yale University – Norfolk Music Festival and throughout this six weeks period, he received intensive coaching from Peter Frankl, Boris Berman, Wey-Yi Yang and Melvin Chen.

He is also a very active chamber musician. His duo with cellist Alex Rolton won the Brahms RAM Competition and was invited to perform at Colston Hall, Bristol and Academy Festivals. His Trio Cardinale won the Cavatina Intercollegiate Piano Trio Competition in 2013. As a Sonoro Chamber Music Festival Scholar, Florian performed alongside world-renowned musicians such as Alexander Sitkovetsky, David Cohen, Jan-Erik Gustaffson and Nabil Shehata.

Florian started studying piano with Flavia Moldovan and Gabriela Enășescu and was later accepted with scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music in London. As a student of Diana Ketler, he obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in July 2012 with First Class Honours and Regency Award for notable achievements and outstanding studentship. In the summer of 2014, he graduated from the Academy, obtaining his Master of Arts degree with Distinction and a DipRAM for his final recital, which is the Academy’s highest distinction. He also received the Alumni Development Award for a singularly distinguished studentship. He is currently holding the Hodgson Memorial post-studentship Fellowship, being involved in the Academy’s life through various concert projects.

Florian has been generously supported by the Rațiu Family Foundation and was the holder of the 2010/2011 Enescu Scholarship awarded by the Romanian Cultural Institute in London and the 2012/2013 Roy King Scholarship at the Academy. More recently, he has won two postgraduate awards offered by the Martin Musical Scholarship Fund and the Tillett Trust and was awarded the Silver Medal by the Worshipful Company of Musicians. He is a member of the Romanian Association for Culture, Education and Normality, being involved in projects promoting Romania’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
