Hongyu has achieved Distinction in LTCL diploma for piano performance as well as Distinction in ABRSM Violin Grade 8 when she was 15. She began her musical journey when she was 4 and started to take part in piano competitions at the age of six. She has won worldwide competitions in the US, Singapore, Shanghai and Taiwan, including the top prize in TOYAMA Asia Piano competition held in Hong Kong. Hongyu was the champion of VIVACE National Piano Ensemble Competition for Tertiary Institutions in Singapore in 2018. Hongyu successfully held her own piano and violin recital in public when she was 14, with over 500 people in the audience. When Hongyu came to Singapore in Sec3, she self-studied Higher Music as an additional subject and has achieved A1 (also top in level) for O Level Higher Music. Hongyu got accepted to National Junior College (NJC) through DSA in Music Excellence and was the President of Piano Ensemble during her time in NJC. Hongyu graduated from NJC with an A in A-Level music has got accepted to all the conservatoires she applied, including Royal College of Music (UK), Royal Academy of Music (UK) and Royal Northern College of Music (UK) for piano performance undergraduate.
Hongyu has started her piano accompaniment journey since she was 9. She was appointed as the only student piano accompaniment for the school choir in both primary and secondary school. With 12 years of experience in piano accompaniment, she has experience in accompanying a range of instruments including vocal, violin, viola, and cello.
