James enjoys accompanying a wide variety of soloists and ensembles at the piano, both in public recitals and in more informal settings. A regular feature in concerts in around the York area, he is also frequently in demand as an accompanist for ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall music exams.

James believes in a forming a close working relationship with soloists, working collaboratively to achieve the best possible realisation of the music in hand. His accompanying style is regularly praised for its sensitivity, understanding, and musical intelligence.
