Piano Collaboration & Coaching
I trained as a solo pianist, but the work I love most happens in a room with someone else, adjusting to a singer's breath, following a violinist through a rubato, or helping a young ensemble find where they actually agree with each other musically. That's the work I do now, as a DMA candidate at Boston University and a working collaborative pianist across the Boston area.
My approach starts with listening rather than correcting. Whether I'm coaching a student ensemble or accompanying a recital, I try to find what's already working in a performance and build from there — the goal is always a version of the piece that sounds like the performers, not like me.
📖Background
Boston University — DMA in Piano Performance (in progress)
Boston University — Master of Music in Piano Performance
Zhejiang Conservatory of Music — Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance
What this looks like in practice
I currently accompany the GBCCA Choral Society on a weekly basis, and work independently with instrumentalists and vocalists preparing for recitals, competitions, and exams. Earlier in my training, I coordinated concerts and admissions events at Zhejiang Conservatory and taught piano privately,so I'm comfortable both at the keyboard and behind the scenes of a performance.
Areas I regularly support:
➡️Exam accompaniment (ABRSM and equivalent)
➡️Audition and competition prep
➡️Recitals and recordings
➡️Rehearsal coaching for small ensembles
I work fluently in both English and Chinese.
