Additional Info:

Ming Wei started learning piano at a young age and always had a passion for music. She picked up songwriting as a hobby and won the first prize for “SONGS 2002”, a song writing competition co-organised by National University of Singapore and Exxonmobil. In 2004, she completed her Bachelors with Honours music degree (second upper class) at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts affiliated with the University of Wales (UK) majoring in piano performance with the help of a NAFA scholarship. In that same year, she also obtained her LRSM in piano performance.

Ming Wei has since obtained two Masters in Music from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (USA), one in piano performance and one in collaborative piano in 2009 and 2012 respectively. She was awarded graduate assistantships throughout her entire course of studies, being the first student to be able to renew her assistantship for her second Masters degree. During her studies in SIUC, she was the rehearsal pianist for the Concert Choir and the keyboardist for La Tragedie de Carmen, a 90-minute adaptation of Bizet’s Carmen presented by the students of SIUC. She also had the fortunate opportunity to be one of the pianists/accompanists in the Opera at the Avalon summer festival in Newfoundland Canada in 2011. She was involved in the recitals presented, the rehearsal pianist for one of the operas performed during the festival, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, played in the voice studios of Joan Paternaude-Yarnell and Cynthia Hoffman (teachers at The Julliard School, New York) as well as worked with the head coach Steven Philcox. Besides playing the piano, she also enjoys singing and has sung with the SYC Ensemble Singers under Ms Jennifer Tham from 2002 to 2007.

Ming Wei particularly enjoys working with choirs and the voice and has accompanied for various recitals, competitions and exams both in Singapore and while studying in the United States. She is currently a freelance educator and accompanist in Singapore, including being a part-time lecturer at Singapore University of Social Sciences teaching a music appreciation course. Her most recent accomplishment includes being hired as one of the main pianists for the Singapore Lyric Opera ASEAN Vocal Competition playing for both the semifinals and grand finals in October 2018. Her piano teachers include Ms. Teo Kuan Shan, Dr. Teo Kian Seng, Dr. Junghwa Lee, Dr. Paul Transue, Dr. Ina Selvelieva, Dr. Yuko Kato, and Ms. Pia Bose.
