Additional Info:

An experienced music educator and practitioner, Muqiao divides her time between accompaniment and teaching, and collaborates regularly in public performances with both enthusiastic amateurs and professional musicians. She has accompanied the final prize winners of the Symphony 92.4 Young Talent Project and Asia Arts Festival, and regularly accompanies for events such as the Singapore Raffles International Music Festival (SRIMF), the National Piano and Violin Competition (NPVC), the President’s Young Performers audition etc. In ensemble accompaniment, she has helped the CHIJ Toa Payoh Primary School Choir and the Raffles Girls’ School (Secondary) Choir to achieve Distinction at the Singapore Youth Festival. In addition, she is frequently engaged for school and ABRSM exams, competitions, and college auditions (e.g. Yong Siew Toh Conservatory, Royal College of Music, Royal Conservatory of Scotland, etc.)

Muqiao's teaching journey started at Peicai Secondary School, where she pioneered the General Music Programme (GMP). She then taught Music Elective Programme (MEP) and GMP at the Methodist Girls’ School, where she guided both internal and external classes. After leaving the Ministry of Education, she continued to guide O Level and A Level music students in all aspects of the curriculum, and students have consistently achieved high standards. Her piano students range from preschool children to octogenarians, and aspirations vary from serious learners of the classical repertoire to jazz practitioners who wish to complement their skills with classical technique and theory knowledge.

Muqiao started her formal music education with the MEP, which led to her studies at the Royal College of Music (London), fully supported by the MOE Teaching Scholarship (Overseas) and the RCM Study Award. Under the tutelage of Andrew Ball, former Head of Keyboard at the college, as well as Elizabeth Burley and John Blakely who taught collaborative piano, she graduated with First Class Honours upon graduation. In addition, she has taken masterclasses with musicians including Michel Beroff, Victor Rosenbaum, Alexander Kobrin, and Roy Howat. Keenly interested in the chamber and orchestral repertoires, she has also performed under the baton of conductors such as Stephen Bell and Nicholas Collon. She was a semi-finalist in the Artist Category of the NPVC in 2015 and a finalist in the NomadPlay Competition in 2020.
